who is Nick Sugar?

Nick Sugar is an award-winning director, choreographer and actor based in Denver and New York City. He has also served as an artistic director, producer and instructor throughout his career.

Prior to moving back to Denver, Nick lived and worked in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and New York City. He has toured throughout Asia, Canada, Europe, and the United States. In Denver, Nick has worked with the Denver Center’s Stories on Stage, Boulder’s Dinner Theatre, Arvada Center, Aurora Fox, Avenue Theater, Curious Theatre, Paragon Theatre, PHAMALy, Colorado Light Opera, Mizel Theatre, and Town Hall Arts Center.

Among the numerous awards he has been honored include the 2007 and 2008 Denver Post Ovation Awards for Best Season by a Director. Other honors include the Rocky Mountain News “Top of the Rockies,” OutFront Colorado, Best of Westword, the Marlowe Awards, Colorado BackStage Spotlight Awards, and the Colorado Theatre Guild’s Henry Award.

For seven years Nick served as Artistic Director for the highly-recognized 501(c)(3) organization Theatre Group, which operated the Theatre On Broadway and Phoenix Theatre in Denver.

Currently Nick serves on the Board of Directors for Town Hall Arts Center in Littleton and the Colorado Theatre Guild, where he hopes to encourage and support live theatre throughout Colorado.
